On the surprisingly universal principles of nationalism

I think the principles of nationalism are the same whatever your race or nation: you want to trust your government to promote the long term national interest so that whatever sacrifices you are required to make seem fair enough. Married working fathers understandably feel outraged when they see their government preferring foreigners over themselves, gay men over married men and women over men. When they finally become aware that the non-indigenous, non-fathers, non-men, non-heterosexuals and the non-working have more rights than they do and they are not even allowed to complain about them, they understandably become very aggrieved. I don't have to be white, male or racist to understand this.
