Richard Edmonds of the NF on the two ruinous world wars Britain inexplicably fought

British foreign policy has been insane for approximately 100 years.

British domestic policy has been insane for approximately half that time.

When you ask a lunatic what he thinks he is doing, he sometimes manages to give what sounds like an intelligible answer.  However, when you enquire further, you discover that he has become catatonic and is not responding at all.

Why did Britain enter two ruinous wars?  Can any British historian explain this?

Actually, not even the Right who denounce the warmongers in the Liberal government of Asquith as well as the Conservative government of Chamberlain, can explain this.

But I can.  The answer lies in Gilbert & Sullivan's IOLANTHE.

ACT II.
Scene. — Palace Yard, Westminster, Westminster Holly L, Pri-
vate Willis discovered on Sentry, R, Night.
^ SONG.— WILLIS.

When all night long a chap remains
On sentry-go, to chase monotony
He exercises of his brains :
That is, assuming that he's got any.
Though never nurtured in the lap
Of luxury, yet, I admonish you,
I am an intellectual chap.
And think of things that would astonish you.
I often think it's comical (fal, lal, la !)
How Nature always does contrive (fal, lal, la !)
That every boy and every gal
That's born into the world alive
Is either a little Liberal
Or else a little Conservattve.
Fal, lal, la I
When in that house MPs divide.
If they've a brain and cerebellum too,
They've got to leave that brain outside
And vote just as their leaders tell 'em to.
But then the prospect of a lot
Of dull MPs in close proximity.
All thinking for themselves, is what
No man can face with equanimity
*.
Then let's rejoice with loud fal, lal, fal, lal, la I
That Nature wisely does contrive (fal, lal, la !)
That every boy and every gal
That's born into the world alive
Is either a little Liberal
Or else a little Conservative.
Fal, lal, la!

*  http://conservativehome.blogs.com/parliament/2010/10/peter-bone-seeks-to-abolish-the-flatterers-cajolers-and-sometime-bullies-that-are-the-party-whips.html  Peter Bone's House of Commons Disqualification Bill never got anywhere, did it?

What does this mean?

Are MPs too stupid to see the cause of their own oppression?

Or are they too afraid to complain about it?

Why do successive governments contrive to facilitate immigration when they know their voters hate it?  Do they know what they are doing, or are they being a combination of mad, stupid and evil?

The answers to these questions are contained in the following:

  1. Representative Democracy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oligopoly  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oligarchy
  2. Indiscriminate universal suffrage.  The welfare-dependent should be disenfranchised.
  3. The lack of protection of the rights of party members making them afraid to criticise or question party policy or their leader  http://conservativehome.blogs.com/parliament/2010/10/peter-bone-seeks-to-abolish-the-flatterers-cajolers-and-sometime-bullies-that-are-the-party-whips.html
  4. The lack of a one-party state whose operation would necessarily become more transparent than the current apparent abundance and confusion of choice.  Joining the wrong one could easily ruin your political career.
  5. Feminism and the Single Mother Factor that inclines politicians to the Left to attract the votes of spoilt, irresponsible and parasitical women who never think of the long term national interest.  http://www.examiner.com/article/how-the-single-mother-factor-was-responsible-for-obama-s-win-1
  6. The matriarchy we have been living in is irrational and causes men to behave irrationally too.  http://www.heretical.com/sheppard/hflttww.html
  7. The principle of free speech is not understood, not even by the nationalist parties who complain about a lack of free speech.
  8. Nobody trusts anyone and no one can rely on anyone because they have no code of honour and the idea of behaving like gentlemen with a sense of fair play has long since been lost, if it ever existed.
