Graham Greene's Quiet American - a film about US foreign policy so old it is new again

The scene in which Pyle the interfering self-righteous CIA agent is murdered is also beautifully done. He actually runs into the knife of his killer. This scene is enormously satisfying if you think, like me, that US foreign policy is analogous to the Americans committing a very slow and public ceremony of ritual suicide.

It ends happily with Caine and his mistress back together again after a very touching reunion.

Is Islam analogous to Mr Knightley in Jane Austen's Emma?
