"Never explain and never apologise. Your enemies have no wish to forgive you, and your friends already understand."
This advice was common when the concept of honour was not unknown to the Englishman of a certain class. Unfortunately, honour and the Englishmen who might uphold anything that might be identified as Aristocratic Virtue are now sadly extinct. They are all fools and knaves now. I am probably betraying my great age by even claiming to be familiar with these concepts.
