EXPOSING LABOUR HYPOCRISY: the top rate of tax was 40% for 12 years and 11 months of the last Labour government (May 1997 - April 2010). From April this year it will be 45%. Those with the broadest shoulders will still pay more in tax under the Conservatives than they did under Labour.
