Once I have pointed out the truth to them, they won't be able to forget it. They couldn't even if they tried. They could deny it silently to themselves or they could complain about it to other people, but when they complain about it to others, they help to propagate it. They can't keep it to themselves because it is so horrible they need to talk to someone about it, and in this way propagate the message in spite of themselves.
