To compete with China, America must be more like China

If you are a liberal democrat, you cannot think beyond the next election which is always less than four years away. If America wants to compete with China, it will have to stop thinking in terms of fighting elections and instead make more of a point of governing in the long term national interest.

Happily for the Americans, Trump has identified himself as a nationalist. If he could impress on the world that nationalism is government in the national interest - which transcends racial considerations - rather than endless foreign wars and uncontrolled immigration, he would be doing us all a service in rehabilitating the term, which liberals like to associate with two World Wars, Nazism, Fascism and pogroms.

Empire necessarily means multiculturalism as surely as night follows day. It seems most ordinary Americans don't really know that America is an empire and want nothing to do with its imperialism

A referendum after a landslide victory would be an excellent way of resolving the identity crisis of Americans.  Do they want to be liberals or nationalists?

Do they want American imperialism to continue or have they had enough of it?

Are any liberals capable of agreeing on the principles of liberalism and compiling an official handbook of liberalism? If not, then the term is as meaningless and as dangerous as worshipping your past without bothering to separate the good from the bad.
