Can you do AA of you don’t drink?

11:36 AM
@Eolson-helper
#1
I have found confession hard to broach in A Protestant context.

11:41 AM
@MessiahSubstitute
@Eolson-helper There's Al Anon for family members of the alcoholic.

The steps are a tool for stripping away Common manifestations of self centeredness to grow closer to god and love /serve others

It’s almost like a pragmatic monastic process

11:45 AM
@ChadMatthewAlvin
#1
It’s a joyful tool

11:45 AM
@YawnGod
@Eolson-helper He's alright but a bit too...magoo. Math is for autists, after all 🤔

11:45 AM
@Eolson-helper
#3
Magoo - ?

11:45 AM
@YawnGod
@Eolson-helper You don't know Mr. Magoo?

11:46 AM
@Eolson-helper
#3
I don’t know much

11:46 AM
@YawnGod
@Eolson-helper See, you are not autistic 😉

11:46 AM
@MessiahSubstitute
@chrishoward8473 Did you watch Mark Parker's stream on his proposed conversion to Catholicism?

11:47 AM
@Eolson-helper
#3
I’ve had some people propose it. But most of my quirks are ADHD related.

11:47 AM
@YawnGod
I don't think a church can fill the void in Mark's heart 🤔

11:47 AM
@MessiahSubstitute
Mark is really more a liberal than Christian because he said he would be more Sam Harris's friend than Doug Wilson's!

11:48 AM
@MessiahSubstitute
#2
@YawnGod Mark may say Jesus a lot but I think his real religion is liberalism and being a Democrat just because he hates Trump so much!

11:49 AM
@YawnGod
@MessiahSubstitute You know...I can't call your assessment incorrect ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

11:49 AM
@stefaniecristos8514
Did Mark respond to your email? Or at least acknowledge it?

11:50 AM
@MessiahSubstitute
#2
Mark is perhaps more a religious dabbler because he considered becoming Buddhist trying to extract maximum spiritual experiences from his religious tourism.

11:51 AM
@MessiahSubstitute
#2
@chrishoward8473 I think Mark wants to be talked about for content producing reasons!

11:51 AM
@stefaniecristos8514
He’s a seeker, I believe, as are so many of us.

11:51 AM
@stefaniecristos8514

And what you said, Claire, could also be true at the same time.

11:51 AM
@YawnGod
@MessiahSubstitute Are you Ms. Khaw?

11:52 AM
@stefaniecristos8514
#1
Aren’t we all multi layered and complicated?

11:52 AM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
If Mark is really a liberal at heart, then he should bear in mind Whig history. Catholics take a quite different view of Whig history to Protestants.

11:53 AM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
@YawnGod I just talk about the things I want to talk about under the umbrella of my political activism.

11:53 AM
@stefaniecristos8514
#1
Ah, sorry

11:54 AM
@ChadMatthewAlvin
#2
It seems like most people in tlc including Brent are operating from a position of faith

11:54 AM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
@BrentBrowling Very true.

11:55 AM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
I like to think I operate from a position of logic. Most people want to operate under "woo". Drives me crazy.

11:55 AM
@ChadMatthewAlvin
#2
Messiah You're faithful to your logic

11:55 AM
@ChadMatthewAlvin
#2
Faith is fundamental

11:56 AM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
Truth and logic are survival strategies. Morality completes it.

11:56 AM
@YawnGod
It's like shuffling. Logic is knowing what the shuffle will bring. And that is called "cheating". So...it's okay to be illogical because it's all part of the game ♠❤♦♣

11:57 AM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
You have to believe your moral system works. Arguably, even liberals have faith that liberalism is best of all. But is it really?

11:57 AM
@ChadMatthewAlvin
#2
Again. You are leaning on a fundamental faith

11:57 AM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
What does it mean to be "more Christian"?

11:58 AM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
There are so many kinds of Christianity rife with sectarianism and schism.

11:58 AM
@ChadMatthewAlvin
#2
Water is wet sky is blue and faith is a fundamental attribute of consciousness

11:59 AM
@BrentBrowling
@MessiahSubstitute yeah, he condones their grievance rage, codependency enabling toxicity

11:59 AM
@ChadMatthewAlvin
#2
I actually think this how it’s possible for us to talk

11:59 AM
@MessiahSubstitute

Christians are the only religious group who have fought a European Wars of Religion and two World Wars with each other. Oh, and the American Civil War and the Mexican-American War and .the Spanish American War and the Paraguayan War. If WW3 breaks out, it will be started by those pesky Christians again.

 Salvation is freely offered to ALL. That’s the truth and beauty of Christianity. How to get it is a point of argument and things go downhill from there.

12:01 PM
@YawnGod
You can't call yourself a good person. You need others to call you a good person. Can one say, I am a Christian, independent of others calling or labeling you Christian? 🤔

12:01 PM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
Is Christianity idolatry, which is a mortal sin?

12:02 PM
@YawnGod
You can't call yourself a martyr. Others...make you a martyr. Anyway 🤔

12:02 PM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
@YawnGod Confirmation ceremonies exist eg the Catholic Church and Anglican Church. Baptists take their credal baptism seriously. The Trinity is so complex people cannot be assumed to understand it.

12:03 PM
@YawnGod
@MessiahSubstitute The Trinity is easy to understand if you use the noun/adjective/verb/adverb analogy. But grammar isn't for everyone 🤔

12:04 PM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
@YawnGod Orthodox Christianity do not have a confirmation ceremony. Anabaptists basically campaigned for the confirmation ceremony through their martyrdom.

12:05 PM
@YawnGod
@MessiahSubstitute Are ceremonies idolatry embodied? 🤔

12:05 PM
@ethan.caughey
Chris Howard’s over here just wrestling with the problem of evil.

12:05 PM
@MessiahSubstitute

@BrentBrowling The Abrahamic religions are stated to be Judaism, Christianity and Islam. These religions are stated to be Abrahamic because Abraham is mentioned.

12:06 PM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
It is possible to be a Jew or Muslim apparently correctly praying yet still be guilty of idolatry, which is basically THOUGHTCRIME.

12:06 PM
@ChadMatthewAlvin
#2
I think it will be like my dog suddenly Able to understand in a deep way how to sing happy birthday

12:06 PM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
Evil is what God forbids and good what He commands.

12:06 PM
@YawnGod
@MessiahSubstitute Based and Orwellpilled 💊

12:07 PM
@stefaniecristos8514
#1
Have you read The Great Divorce? That book was so helpful to me.

12:07 PM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
@YawnGod The Hadith mentions open and hidden idolatry.

12:07 PM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
@stefaniecristos8514 Who by?

12:07 PM
@YawnGod
@MessiahSubstitute Strong hadith or weak hadith?

12:08 PM
@stefaniecristos8514
#1
C.S. Lewis

12:08 PM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
@YawnGod Dunno.

12:08 PM
@YawnGod
@MessiahSubstitute Hadiths are on a specrum 🌈

12:09 PM
@stefaniecristos8514

The lotus grows in mud….

12:09 PM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
@YawnGod I know.

12:09 PM
@ethan.caughey
Poop is fertilizer. No symbolism needed.

12:09 PM
@stefaniecristos8514

A little Buddhism never hurts 🪷

12:10 PM
@MessiahSubstitute
#3
@YawnGod I think the strong or weak Hadith idea only applies to stories about the Prophet.

12:10 PM
@YawnGod
@MessiahSubstitute Mmm, very possible.
