Google are like a bull in a, heh heh, China shop. Why do they think they are? Do they really think the Chinese government are going to allow themselves to be pushed around by a bunch of American upstarts? Google had a tantrum, and the Chinese government spoke softly, wielding a big stick ....
THE VOICE OF REASON Solon, (born c. 630 BCE—died c. 560 BCE), Athenian statesman, known as one of the Seven Wise Men of Greece (the others were Chilon of Sparta, Thales of Miletus, Bias of Priene, Cleobulus of Lindos, Pittacus of Mytilene, and Periander of Corinth). Solon ended exclusive aristocratic control of the government, substituted a system of control by the wealthy, and introduced a new and more humane law code. He was also a noted poet.

And who loses? Google? No Chinese? Yes. Chinese censorship is laughable and another nod to the fact they don't want any of their subjects to think with a free mind. You crap on about a nanny state....China is only outdone by North Korea for their state control.
China is surprisingly Libertarian if you go there. They have lower taxes and fewer laws.
In the last 8 years I have spent over a year there. As an outsider I find it amusing that the general populous know nothing of world history, no acknowledgement to Genghis Khan for uniting China, in fact they are as ignorant as the Americans and rather similarly arrogant. They can't freely go across their own country and a day trip to Macau/ Hong Kong is a dream for most of them. They do not look after their poor and people starve on the street....
Is that the China you mean?
Ah yes, hello again Posie AKA Kellie.
I do not deny that many people in China are poor.
What is the point you are trying to make though?
What? I'm neither Posie or Kellie. I have spent time in China on work placements, in mainland China too. Censorship is rife too, one night I was watching world news and the next minute the program was off air. Talking to friends in Oz I found out that it was a story about Taiwan.
(btw I am not the first anonymous, just the second)
As you are all too *cowardly* to put even your usernames or Mumsnet nicknames when you come here to slag me off, I hope you will find it in your hearts to forgive me when I get confused with all you Anonymouses!
Jim Rogers think China is the future. Bill Bonner thinks along these lines too and there are many many people who say how free and orderly China is if you want low taxes and low crime.
China is going to get more powerful and the West is going to weaken and becoming the Sick Man of the World. That should be enough to send alarm bells ringing in most reasonably sensible people, but not Mumsnetters, obviously.
Apology accepted! Still with the divide widening so quickly, in China, and foreigners taking a healthy profit as well as some indigenous millionaires I think there will be an uprising and rebellion from within. Hopefully in my lifetime.

In addition to my last post I must add that china has no power without customers.
And why would you wish ill upon a people in a foreign land who have not harmed you, TC?
China has been exploring other markets, TC, in Africa in South America and of course their own domestic market. They know the West are bankrupt and won't be able to afford anything much soon.
Google did cave in, didn't they?
TC...
Have I wished for something bad? I simply wish for a more fair China where babies are not in dying rooms.
http://pangaea.org/street_children/asia/china.htm suggests that dying rooms are for disabled children.
The healthy ones they can sell to childless Western couples.
I've spent far too long in Macau reading their illegal press to know that is bullshit. These are not disabled children, they are girls. Besides disabled or not it is disgusting. You seemingly avoid the numerous questions about what your bonkers ideas would do to society as a whole. Do you really suppose devaluing women will be better for men? I suggest you spend time in an Islamic, totalitarian country and then in Pataya Thailand because those places highlight what happens when men lead. I promise you it's not pretty.
TC
I don't know why you think I propose to devalue women just by taking away some of their power.
Most of them are not competent to vote because they do not pay tax.
Have I said women should not be able to vote simply because they are women?
No, I have said as long as you pay a minimum of tax, you can vote.
In practice, however, most women who will be mothers won't bother.
I know there is prostitution in Pattaya and I think brothel-keeping should be legalised here.
What else will these single mums be fit for once the Sex Discrimination Act is repealed and their child benefit abolished?
So if I leave my wife tomorrow and go and live in Thailand, abandoning my three children, she is not worth helping?
It is not just prostitution in Pattaya, it is old western/russian men with very young Thai women. The seedy undercurrent there is tangible.
I never suggested that a wife abandoned by her husband with three children should not be helped by charity. You do have some strange ideas about me. Aren't you also a bit off topic?
