That is what I don't like about Islam. For its many good points, the fact that, unlike Judaism and Christianity, it has complete indifference on race is unappealing to me.

Judaism is the most ethno-centric religion of all the Abrahamic religions. Christianity is more inclusive, because it confers on gentiles the benefits of a unique omnipotent God by demanding belief from the Christian that Christ is God. This was the heresy that made the Hebrews demand Christ's execution. Since belief in the Trinity is something many Christians find hard to accept too.
Islam has a much lower entry threshold since it does not require you to believe in a lie, ie that Jesus is God.
You may be interested to know that "ummah" also means "nation".
While this may seem a bit strange, it just means a gathering of tribes with a particular world view or self-identity.
It is therefore the Muslim word for "Christendom".
This does not necessarily mean one must allow uncontrolled immigration! There is a verse that stipulates that those who govern must consult those who are governed.

I would interpret this as legitimising referenda, which would have relevance to the UKIP demand for a referendum to withdraw from the EU.
