Thoughts on Catholicism and Islam

Catholicism - a supra-national ideology - was always going to be broken up by the natural wish of every nation to be master of his own house and captain of his own ship of state, hence Protestantism. Islam squares the circle of being both supra-national and allowing each nation to follow the Koran in its own way, with God rewarding the nation that follows God's laws most rationally and wisely with empire and wealth.

What is the enduring appeal of Catholicism, I once asked myself. Then it dawned on me one day like a revelation when I was attending mass at Farm Street: showmanship, architecture, lighting and tailoring.

Oh, and mood music.
