Does Conservatism tell us what we are supposed to conserve?

1:01:00  The origins of Conservatism, which began life unprincipled - has proven to be not up to the job of giving Western governments a moral compass to navigate by. Only a theocracy would give your government the moral compass necessary for navigation into unchartered waters and virgin territory on the turbulent journey of national survival. This is why I propose a one party theocracy governed by the principles of Secular Koranism, Defending the status quo - whatever it is - does not amount to a viable political ideology. The cracks and fissures have begun to show. They will soon deepen into chasms into which the unwary will fall.

The first established use of the term in a political context originated in 1818 with François-René de Chateaubriand during the period of Bourbon Restoration that sought to roll back the policies of the French Revolution. Historically associated with right-wing politics, the term has since been used to describe a wide range of views. There is no single set of policies regarded as conservative because the meaning of conservatism depends on what is considered traditional in a given place and time. Thus conservatives from different parts of the world—each upholding their respective traditions—may disagree on a wide range of issues. Edmund Burke, an 18th-century politician who opposed the French Revolution, but supported the American Revolution, is credited as one of the main theorists of conservatism in Great Britain in the 1790s.

1:02:00  Conservatism is a purely defensive ideology based on tradition but on no particular agreed principles, not even the principle of defending Truth, Logic and Morality. It is not even based on a particular religion. Even if it were, what happens when the religion it has relied on has completely failed?
