How and why Brighton elected Britain's first Green MP

It is difficult to get reliable data on the size of the LGBT community in the area. This
information was not collected in the 2001 Census and is not well covered by most of other equivalent datasets. However, Brighton & Hove is known to have a sizeable LGBT population, which may reflect the high proportion of ‘single, never married’ residents in the area.
According to the Brighton & Hove Crime and Social Disorder Audit 2001, there are estimated to be around 35,000 LGBT residents in the city. The Brighton & Hove Primary Care Trust estimates that there are between 6,000 and 20,000 lesbian and gay residents, around 90% of whom have moved into the area from elsewhere

Key findings from the research conducted for The ‘Brighton & Hove Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Strategy 2001-2006’ reveal:
20% had attempted suicide and 60% had suffered from depression

47% have degrees or postgraduate qualifications

50% are owner occupiers
60% had experienced abuse, harassment or violence outside the home, but more
than half of those who reported incidents felt that their treatment by the police
had been poor

45% had an income of less than £15,000 per year and 10% had an income of more
than £35,000 per year

Miss Atkins was head of Ofsted, the schools watchdog, from 2006 to 2010 and is now the chair of governors at the Portslade Aldridge Community Academy school in Brighton. She is also a shameless SLUT posting on Facebook that her offer of a blowjob to a man she found attractive was declined. Remember: STUPID SLUT is a pleonasm. If you are the parent of any child unfortunate enough to attend Portslade Aldridge Community Academy it is with this stupid slut your child's school will be associated.

Portslade Aldridge Community Academy is a school that requires improvement. It is not good because


  • Teaching was not good enough in the first year of the academy, so students did lesswell than they should have done in their GCSE examinations, especially in mathematics.
  • Students make very different progress in different subjects, because subject leaders are not equally good at making sure everyone does the best they can.
  • The sixth form requires improvement. Students achieve better on some courses than onothers, often because they have not been guided to make choices best suited to their abilities.
  • Some staff struggle to manage the behaviour of the most challenging students.
  • Gaps in achievement between different groups of students are too wide.
  • The Principal and senior leaders did not do enough to make sure that teaching and achievement were good in the academy’s first year.


How likely is a self-confessed slut like Zenna Atkins to improve this school?

 Are sluts like her responsible for the idea that 5 year old children in primary schools should be given sex education? I think we should be told.

Why Lord Mandelson's career has been a personal and national tragedy, so far

His services to the Labour Party are notable and undeniable.

What he did was make the Labour Party make promises to the voters they wanted to hear.

Even if they could not keep those promises, as we have now seen, acknowledging that they would have to make the right kind of promises was a big start.

It was the tribute that the undemocratic vice of ideology paid to democratic virtue.

Lord Mandelson should be thanked for paying that tribute to our much-vaunted democracy.

You see, he is really a Conservative and bourgeois at heart. It is his misfortune that he had been born into the wrong family and joined the wrong party.

If he had joined the right party, he would have been the Prime Minister after Margaret Thatcher.

And that is why I feel for Lord Mandelson this peculiar tenderness one might feel for a storm-soaked pussycat, who has aroused deep maternal emotions I never knew I had.

Lord Mandelson's political career has been a national and personal tragedy. He joined a party that is even now too dim, spiteful to feel the gratitude they should rightfully feel and too apathetic, timorous and small-minded to enthusiastically endorse his leadership even if they are secretly grateful to him.

As Phil Woolas once said of him: "He may be a bastard, but he is our [ie a Labour Party] bastard."

Brown could perhaps redeem himself by acknowledging Mandelson's unique suitability to lead the Labour Party into the next election, publicly and dramatically, at the Brighton conference.

If that happened I may even start believing in God.
