Roger Scruton and his views on Islam and feminism

Roger Scruton in Oslo: Christianity v Islam

MY COMMENTS

13:00  Scruton seems to be saying that Christianity is better than Islam because the Americans got so fed up with it they quarantined the church from the state. This is a bug rather than feature, surely?

Islam on the other hand accepts the logic of your laws conforming to your chosen moral system. The West is as Christian as a human skeleton used to be human.

Again that stupid story of Christ letting that adulterous woman off. Does this mean no sinner or sex offender must ever be punished?  If not, what does it mean then?  quran.com/24/2 makes this clear, doesn't it? But Islamophobic Christian chauvinists prefer to sneer at the clarity and simplicity in favour of a religion that no longer works.

25:00  Here we go again about the niqab. The Koran does not tell Muslim women to go around looking like pillar boxes and highwaymen. Why doesn't Scruton read the Koran so he can find out the difference between what Muslims do and what the Koran actually says instead of trotting out the tired old Islamophobic tropes again? Why won't he read the Koran? Because he cannot bear to because he is too much of an Islamophobe to pick it up? Islamophobes have an almost superstitious fear of picking it up, don't they?

45:00  "Islam is totally decadent." Really? As decadent as Christianity? If the Gate of Interpretation was closed, let us take a battering ram to it. Who is going to stop us?

Scruton says to Hamza Yusuf that respects Islam as a moral foundation to confront this "gradual degeneration of things all around us to start building again to recapture those things which are jeopardised by the laxness of modern society".
