Gove was born in Edinburgh; at four months old, he was adopted by a Labour-supporting family in Aberdeen, where he was brought up. His adoptive father ran a fish processing business; his adoptive mother was a lab assistant at the University of Aberdeen before working at the Aberdeen School for the Deaf.

In Aberdeen he was educated at a state school, and later attended the independent Robert Gordon's College, to which he had won a scholarship. In October 2012, Gove wrote an apology letter to his former French teacher for misbehaving in class.

From 1985 to 1988 he studied English at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, where he served as President of the Oxford Union. He was awarded a 2:1-degree.

Gove is a scholarship boy and arguably Scottish. This will be useful in dealing with them and keeping Scotland part of the Union.

He really would be the leader of National Unity.

Stand aside, Boris, if you know what's good for you, or at least insist that he stand. 

People are sick of unprincipled Etonians.

You also hesitated before you decided to support leave. Why did you do that? This means you were calculating the odds of leave winning, not because you wondered if leaving was the right thing to do.

Dan Hannan should declare now that he will challenge David Cameron in Witney at the next General Election. 

Once he does that, everything will fall into place, eg party and activists, supporters, disgruntled Conservatives tired of Cameron's Socialist Party.

But he must first be prepared to take the bull by the horns.  Faint heart ne'er won fair voter.

My solution to the problem of a Hung Parliament

My suggestions for sorting the mess of a Hung Parliament:

1. Abolish the parties and allow only one party of national interest.
2. Retire all party whips.
3. Make every vote a free vote.
4. Make all the current MPs elect a leader declaring that membership of the House of Lords is no bar to being considered (Only Lord Mandelson has the ability to appeal to both Tories and Labour - he would be a unifying leader and reassuring to the markets.)

A New Member of the Labour Party

I have just joined the Labour Party just so that I may have the opportunity of voting for Lord Mandelson to be Lord of the Labour Party and hopefully, First Lord of the Treasury ...

Am I very mad and silly? If he is not leader of the Labour Party I shall just cut up my membership card and send it back to them in a fit of pique, and vote BNP, oh yes I will ....

There is a method to my madness, oh yes there is.

Jeremy Clarkson for Prime Minister?

He is after all the unacknowledged No 1 Alpha Male of our Great British Nation and already internationally known for his bad boy exploits with the internal combustion engine.

He is tall, manly, speaks his mind, and is not frightened of turbo-charging his words and actions with thrilling bursts of testosterone.

Women love that, and men do too. They would both probably do anything for him. He could even be our Fuhrer ...

Most people would choose Clarkson, if push came to shove, but I remain steadfastly loyal to my choice of Lord Mandelson. When a man has my admiration, he has my admiration until he does something to forfeit it.
