Thoughts on becoming an Islamic State

I cannot help thinking that if we were already an Islamic State we just wouldn't be helplessly allowing migrants to keep coming and concerned only about how we are to house them and protect them from the irate locals once they are here.

I am afraid these are my recurring thoughts. Can anyone at all say something reassuring to me? I fear I am being radicalised by the incompetence of the British government! Perhaps some competent and charismatic MP will say something soothing and convincing.

My message to Channel on being radicalised by the resignation of Keith Vaz
























Although I am not Muslim, I feel I am becoming increasingly radicalised every time I hear about the stupidity, hypocrisy and cowardice of our MPs.

Is there anyone in a position of authority I can speak to whose views would command my respect, who could persuade me that the answer to the problem of increasingly stupid, hypocritical and cowardly MPs running the government is not in fact a one-party theocracy governed under Islamic principles?

I was very upset to hear that not a single MP defended their human right to hire prostitutes. Hearing that Keith Vaz had resigned his position as Chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee disappointed and saddened me profoundly.

Not only are MPs incapable of defending a principle - the principle that it is not illegal to hire prostitutes - they are also incapable of protecting their own interests of having the option of hiring prostitutes should they ever choose to do so. If those in charge of the ship of state are incompetents and imbeciles, then how can they give us good government?

If they cannot properly look after the interests of voters, let alone the long term national interest, then an Islamic State could be seen as an increasingly viable and attractive alternative.

While I have no intention of joining Islamic State at present, I would like someone in charge to reassure me that our liberal democracy is working well, so that I do not become even more radicalised the next time I hear of our MPs not defending a principle or the rule of law, or appearing not to even know what they are.

Your prompt response and assistance in this regard would be much appreciated as I do not want to become dangerously disillusioned with the current government or the current system of government and end up becoming a jihadi bride or sex slave.

PICKTHAL: And all married women (are forbidden unto you) save those (captives) whom your right hands possess. It is a decree of Allah for you. Lawful unto you are all beyond those mentioned, so that ye seek them with your wealth in honest wedlock, not debauchery. And those of whom ye seek content (by marrying them), give unto them their portions as a duty. And there is no sin for you in what ye do by mutual agreement after the duty (hath been done). Lo! Allah is ever Knower, Wise.
SHAKIR: And all married women except those whom your right hands possess (this is) Allah's ordinance to you, and lawful for you are (all women) besides those, provided that you seek (them) with your property, taking (them) in marriage not committing fornication. Then as to those whom you profit by, give them their dowries as appointed; and there is no blame on you about what you mutually agree after what is appointed; surely Allah is Knowing, Wise.

YUSUFALI: If any of you have not the means wherewith to wed free believing women, they may wed believing girls from among those whom your right hands possess: And Allah hath full knowledge about your faith. Ye are one from another: Wed them with the leave of their owners, and give them their dowers, according to what is reasonable: They should be chaste, not lustful, nor taking paramours: when they are taken in wedlock, if they fall into shame, their punishment is half that for free women. This (permission) is for those among you who fear sin; but it is better for you that ye practise self-restraint. And Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
PICKTHAL: And whoso is not able to afford to marry free, believing women, let them marry from the believing maids whom your right hands possess. Allah knoweth best (concerning) your faith. Ye (proceed) one from another; so wed them by permission of their folk, and give unto them their portions in kindness, they being honest, not debauched nor of loose conduct. And if when they are honourably married they commit lewdness they shall incur the half of the punishment (prescribed) for free women (in that case). This is for him among you who feareth to commit sin. But to have patience would be better for you. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
SHAKIR: And whoever among you has not within his power ampleness of means to marry free believing women, then (he may marry) of those whom your right hands possess from among your believing maidens; and Allah knows best your faith: you are (sprung) the one from the other; so marry them with the permission of their masters, and give them their dowries justly, they being chaste, not fornicating, nor receiving paramours; and when they are taken in marriage, then if they are guilty of indecency, they shall suffer half the punishment which is (inflicted) upon free women. This is for him among you who fears falling into evil; and that you abstain is better for you, and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Which is worse: MGTOW or Islamic State?

Richard Barrett admits that the West has no ideas at all to counter the propaganda of Islamic State

The conviction of a London teenager for planning to behead a soldier apparently reminded people of the problem of identifying individuals who are often caught up sometimes very quickly in the world of extreme jihadism. You will know that President Obama has convened a conference in Washington to bring together governments and others facing similar problems. The Home Secretary is one of attendees but answers are very difficult to find. I have been speaking to Richard Barrett who has been attending the conference. We talked about radicalisation and I asked him whether the assumption now was that this would be with us for a generation.

This idea that teenage angst in the case of Ziamani - that's always been with us and will always be with us. It is just the expression of that angst which changes. One generation might throw a brick through a shop window, another generation might go off and join the Islamic State to fight.

JN:

I think what people who are not subject to these pressures and influences find it difficult to understand is the speed with which this can happen.

RB:

That is odd and I have seen people getting to the stage from conversion to joining the Islamic State in as little as six weeks. It is quite extraordinary and I think it is perhaps because people who convert are those most likely to be people who seek a sense of belonging and identity which can drive people to take this rather extreme action.

JN:

Given that governments have to do something even if they know that can't sort this out easily, what should be top of the shopping list listening to the people at this conference? What is the direction that governments in Europe and here particularly in Britain should take in the next year or two?

RB:

There was a lot of talk today about "empowering the community". It sounds nice, it is a good sound byte, but what does it actually mean in fact? I think this has to be worked out a little bit, but I think ultimately, insofar as the community can be "empowered" to look after itself and to be aware of the danger of self-radicalisation, I think that must be the right way to go and so it is a question of finding things which deal with the aspirations or desires of the individual, if you like, who see their futures in extremist movements and finding alternatives for them which offer the same things.

JN:

I suppose, looking at it the other way round, the challenge is clearly how to counter a very effective propaganda machine by Islamic State aimed at these people who are susceptible to the message.

RB:

They do have an amazingly effective propaganda machine and it's not so much its technical capability ,but the content is very very compelling. I think it's very difficult for governments or even communities to offer such compelling content to compete with that. It's all very well to push out content like that but you have to have a receptive audience and if the audience is not receptive it is not going to lead to anything so you have to deal more with the receptivity of the audience than the content of Islamic State propaganda.

JN:

The real problem surely is if you get people who cross the line and reach a point where they are willing to contemplate suicide bombing or death in battle or whatever it is, it's hard to get them back.

RB:

It does seem very hard to get them back but you could also say the same for someone who forms a cult or a gang or whatever. It's always been very very hard to get people out of movements when they've pinned their flag so firmly to the mast. What can you do about that? You have to undermine the leadership, you have to expose their flaws, you have to show that what they're doing is actually counter-productive to what they professing to be trying to do and so on, but it's difficult.

JN:

Finally, you've lived in this world for a time and you've watched them for a time. Listening to what you have been listening to in Washington, what's the most interesting thing you've heard in the last day or two?

RB:

I am afraid to say that the most interesting thing I have heard is the confusion about what to do, and that is disappointing in a way, understandable but disappointing that all the great minds that have been put to thinking about this problem haven't really come up with a sensible way to forward so I guess that means we have to keep on trying and working at it and eventually help it to burn out.

England could have been an Islamic State from the reign of King John

John himself was excommunicated, parts of the country were in revolt and there were threats of a French invasion.

I am signing because I believe Ched Evans was wrongly convicted by a system rigged in favour of complainants who are already incentivised by a payout of £11,000 from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board for a conviction. It has to be borne in mind that Alison Saunders, the Director of the Public Prosecutions is female and has already declared that she wants more rape convictions. Keir Starmer, who started all this nonsense about victim justice, which meant lowering the criminal burden of proof, now wants to be Labour MP and eventually Labour PM. As for all the other leaders of the other political parties, they are all terrified of alienating the female vote. No Englishman has it himself to stand up for any principle, even if it is for one so long-standing and fundamental to our liberties. What chance does an entirely pussy-whipped nation have against the likes of Islamic State?
